The Story Behind Radiant Rehydration

Meet the founder and learn how Radiant Rehydration came to life.

I’d like to formally introduce myself. I’m Alina and I’m a registered nurse who started Radiant Rehydration in 2023. I was raised in St. Louis, my favorite hobby is traveling, I LOVE good food, my happy place is the beach with a book in my hands and I’m always on the go (read a little more about me at the end of this article).

Nice to meet you all!

The inspiration for Radiant Rehydration came from my personal struggles and the desire to start my own business. I deal with the constant battle of IBS and dehydration. Having to watch what I eat, when I eat it, remembering to manage symptoms, and trying to plan ahead when flare-ups happen.

I know I’m not the only one out there.

Between close friends and patients, I run into numerous people who visit the ER to relieve a flare-up due to Crohn’s, IBS, diverticulitis, diverticulosis, and other chronic stomach issues. We do what we can to manage our diet but sometimes life has other plans. We choose to indulge in our favorite yummy food or accidentally eat something that wreaks havoc on our digestive system causing us to miss out on social events or scheduled plans due to the pain, bloating, and discomfort. It’s not a glamorous life.

From research paired with trial and error, I learned I could tame flare-ups with IV fluids and other lifestyle changes. When I was in a pinch and had exhausted other methods, IV fluids saved me.

I’ll save you all the gory details of what the fluids helped regulate and resolve - you IBS’ers out there know what I’m referring to.

Too often a rough flare-up goes one of two ways:

You schedule an appointment with your GI specialist and wait weeks. Or you go to the ER and pay a couple thousand dollars for IV fluids and medication - although those fluids are lacking vitamins and essential minerals. The type of minerals which are commonly depleted with these chronic conditions.

The magic I was able to work on my condition is what I want to share with others.

What’s the solution?

Radiant Rehydration offers a GI blend to settle chronic gut issues at a more reasonable price than the ER, with shorter waits, and can be done from the comfort of your home.

I’d love to give you or your loved ones relief from these symptoms while replenishing nutrients and healing colon lining with glutathione. Glutathione has become my favorite antioxidant because of it’s wide range of conditions it improves.

You can learn more about what’s in the GI blend here. Look for the “Replenish” IV drip blend.

Radiant Rehydration offers drips and vitamin injections for several beauty, performance, illness, and dehydration needs. Keep reading this article to learn more.

Questions?

I’m always happy to discuss custom blends to meet specific needs and additional lifestyle changes + tips I’ve learned to managing my IBS. Don’t hesitate to reach out!

Happy Hydrating!

P.S.

Some bonuses about me. My favorite cuisine is seafood (I could eat raw oysters all day long), I’d love to visit Italy one day - and never leave, my comfort food is a gourmet grilled cheese with homemade tomato soup, my favorite show to rewatch is Gilmore Girls, I love spending sunny days outside, I love reading development and self-help books and I speak a second language. I’d love to learn more about all of you when we meet to work on your rehydration and wellness goals. Be well until then!

IV Hydration vs Vitamin Injection. What’s The Difference?

Find the answers here if you’re wondering what the difference is between IV hydration and vitamin injections.

IV hydration is also known as an IV drip, a fluid drip, IV therapy, or IV infusion.

“IV Hydration” refers to an IV drip where an IV (intravenous) line is placed in either arm to let fluids continuously infuse over a 30-45 minute time frame. Once the IV catheter is in the vein, the needle is removed and a soft piece of flexible plastic remains to allow access to the vein.

The IV is then removed once the fluid bag is finished. The fluid bag consists of vitamins, minerals, electrolytes and certain medications which can be added for individual needs. This allows for maximum hydration and replenishing of core vitamins.

Vitamin Injections are know as vitamin shots or IM shots. “IM” stands for intra-muscular. For proper absorption of certain vitamins or medications, they need to be injected into a large muscle. This can include your upper arm (deltoid), your thigh or your glutes. The choice is yours or a registered nurse can provide with you benefits and risks of each muscle group injection site. The most common vitamin injections Radiant Rehydration offers are B12, Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, and Toradol.

What Are Free Radicals?

Free radicals may be harmful to your body. Find out what they are and how to combat them.

Free radicals are unstable atoms. They cause aging, stress and illness.

LET’S START WITH A CHEMISTRY LESSON

Electrons surround and orbit an atom in layers or ‘shells’. These shells have set numbers of electrons that categorize them as ‘full’ in order to move on to the next shell in an attempt to fill it or to find another atom to bond with in order to complete its shell to reach a stable number of electrons. When the outer shell of an atom is not full (this is called an unstable atom), it can bond with another atom to create a molecule to satisfy the required number of electrons in the shell as they share the electron(s).

An unstable atom is one in which the outer shell does is not ‘full’ and this is what free radicals are. Unstable atoms bond and react quickly with substances due to their unpaired electrons searching for a mate. This can often be harmful because unstable atoms rush to find another atom with an unfinished shell of electrons and can result in creating toxic molecules and damaged cells.

WHY ARE FREE RADICALS HARMFUL?

  • Aging, cancer, wrinkles, illness, and oxidative stress are caused by free radicals

  • Free radicals attribute to autoimmune diseases, inflammatory conditions, dementia, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, high cholesterol, heart disease, cataracts, and Parkinson’s

  • Free radicals bond quickly causing rapid damage

HOW TO PREVENT FREE RADICAL ACCUMULATION IN THE BODY

Free radicals are impossible to halt all together. They’re produced naturally in the body, but these items can accelerate production:

  • Smoking

  • Vaping

  • Alcohol

  • Processed Foods

  • Poor Sleep Quality or Not Enough Sleep

  • Exposure to Chemicals and Pesticides

  • Radiation (from x-rays, CT scans, or UV sunlight)

Steering clear, or minimizing, the items listed above can be a great jump start in reducing free radical formation. A key to reducing the formation and likelihood of free radicals are antioxidants.

ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidant = anti-oxidation

Oxidation, or oxidative stress, is what occurs when unstable oxygen atoms (free radicals) bond with another atom and change the chemical makeup of the molecule.

Antioxidants can afford to donate an electron to free radicals and not become unstable themselves. The result is a stable free radical that is not searching for an atom to hijack and damage.

Oxidative stress attributes to illnesses and conditions listed under the subtitle “Why Are Free Radicals Harmful”.

HOW TO RESTORE ANTIOXIDANTS

Radiant Rehydration offers vitamin C, zinc, and glutathione as supplemental forms of antioxidants.

A well-balanced diet and active lifestyle are supporting factors in reducing free radicals.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have about antioxidant support or visit our services page to book.

What Is In My Drip Blend?

Are you wondering what IV fluids consist of? Take a quick look at the vitamins and add-ons offered by Radiant Rehydration.

WHAT’S IN THE BAG?

  • An IV fluid blend base of normal saline and its vital electrolytes

  • Your choice of added vitamins or medication

WHAT IS NORMAL SALINE?

Normal saline is sodium chloride in sterile water. We use 0.9% sodium chloride in our blends. This isotonic base contains vital electrolytes which balance cells within the body. Isotonic solutions are similar to the volume of particles within the blood - allowing for the most natural fluid balance inside and outside of each cell. Allowing your body to rehydrate via IV fluids provides maximum absorption directly to the bloodstream to ward off signs of dehydration which make you feel under the weather.

VITAMIN ADD-ONS

Vitamin B-complex:

  • B vitamins are essential in brain function, cell metabolism, and energy levels.

  • B vitamins promote and support hormone production, appetite, muscle tone, digestion, eye sight, heart health, nerve function, cell health, neutralizing free radicals (which cause aging), aid in transport of oxygen through the body, and the breakdown of fats.

  • Individuals who have recently had a large consumption of alcohol, have the stomach flu, food poisoning (with vomiting), and chronic GI conditions such as Crohn’s, IBS, Celiac Disease, Ulcerative Colitis are often not absorbing the proper amounts of B vitamins and could benefit from supplementation.

Vitamin B12:

  • Vitamin B12 is famous for its energy level support. This vitamin supports red blood cell formation, mood, and bone health to name a few benefits.

  • We can see improved memory and prevention of heart disease with proper levels of B12.

  • Lack of B12 can lead to fatigue, anemia and worsening depression/anxiety.

Vitamin C:

  • Vitamin C is a necessary antioxidant in growth and repair of body tissues.

  • This vitamin stimulates collagen formation, fights free radicals, enhances brain function, immune health, wound healing, and combating of illness. Vitamin C has been used to improve the outcomes of cancer treatments as well.

  • Individuals fighting an infection or combating inflammatory conditions can benefit from a boost of vitamin C to reduce the negative effects and boost immunity.

Vitamin D:

  • Vitamin D3 promotes healthy bone function, infection fighting, reduction of inflammation, heart health, cholesterol improvement, digestive health, mood-lifting, and weight loss.

  • Vitamin D is naturally and easily absorbed from the sun. In darker, colder months of winter, we often lack this vitamin support and are more susceptible to illness and seasonal depression.

Glutathione:

  • Glutathione is an antioxidant important in fighting free radicals which cause aging and cell damage.

  • It can help the body fight disease, prevent cancer, remove heavy metals, metabolize fats, improve insulin resistance, form DNA, reduce liver damage, help heal the colon.

  • Supplementing glutathione can help those looking to reach beauty and detoxification goals along with those fighting chronic inflammatory or autoimmune conditions.

  • When we are fighting a virus, our natural stores of glutathione are depleted.

Magnesium:

  • This vital mineral is found in every body cell and responsible for 600+ reactions in the body including smooth muscle contraction + relaxation.

  • It helps create energy, improve muscle movement/health, regulate the nervous system, create and repair DNA and RNA.

  • Magnesium is shown to improve athletic performance through movement of blood sugar (energy) into the cells and removal of lactate (the byproduct, or waste, of energy use).

  • This mineral impacts our mood, muscle health, promoting quality sleep, reducing anxiety.

  • Magnesium is a proven aid in migraine treatment.

  • Magnesium is a vital electrolyte in maintaining heart health.

Zinc:

  • This mineral aids the immune system, wound healing, blood clotting, thyroid function, muscle mass retention, strengthening bones, memory improvement, clearer skin, healthy gut function, free radical reduction.

  • Zinc can benefit those who have chronic or acute GI issues such as IBS, the stomach flu, or food poisoning by repairing intestinal lining. It can also attain beauty goals by working together with vitamin C to reduce free radicals along with inflammation that may show itself as redness or blemishes on the skin.

MEDICATION ADD-ONS

Benadryl:

  • Benadryl, also called, diphenhydramine, is an anti-histamine medication.

  • It reduces histamines (a chemical our immune system releases) floating around the body causing runny nose, itchy/watery eyes, cough, throat irritation, sneezing, and wheezing.

  • Antihistamine medications reduce the body’s immune response to rid of these symptoms and improve seasonal allergies, allergic reactions, and reduce cold/flu symptoms.

Pepcid:

  • Pepcid, also called famotidine, is a medication to relieve heartburn, indigestion, ulcers, and acid reflux disease (GERD) by reducing histamines and stomach acid in the GI system.

  • This is a great add-on for those with peptic ulcers, the stomach flu, food poisoning and any condition causing vomiting. Yes, we do mean hangovers.

Toradol:

  • Also called, ketorolac, this medication is a strong NSAID - or anti-inflammatory aid - similar to ibuprofen.

  • This medication is meant to be used for short-term relief of painful conditions. It is not a narcotic or habit-forming.

  • Toradol is great in managing pain ranging from acute injuries to surgeries to migraines by prohibiting our body from releasing a substance which causes inflammation, pain, and fever.

Zofran:

  • Zofran, or ondansetron, prevents nausea and vomiting.

  • It is a great aid for individuals suffering from migraines, food poisoning, stomach flu, seasonal flu, hangovers and more.

Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have questions concerning the benefits/risks of any of our add-ons.

Signs Of Dehydration

The common signs of dehydration and why plain drinking water is simply not enough to fix this.

ARE YOU WORRIED YOU MAY BE DEHYDRATED?

Dehydration may show up as:

  • Brain fog

  • Dark urine and/or decreased urination

  • Muscle cramps

  • Dry mouth, lips, gums

  • Dry skin

  • Headaches

  • Low blood pressure

  • Trouble sleeping

  • Weakness + dizziness

  • Fatigue

These are a handful of signs to look out for when your body does not hold on to enough water + electrolytes in order to maintain a healthy balance your cells require to function at their best. Severe dehydration can lead to hospitalization and should be managed early on.

HOW DOES DEHYDRATION OCCUR?

We experience dehydration when the body does not have a proper balance of water and electrolytes within the cells. Important electrolytes are sodium, magnesium, potassium, calcium and chloride to name a few. Sodium helps move water in and out of our cells to maintain a proper balance - or homeostasis - within the body. Without this balance, you can easily become dehydrated resulting in your brain and muscle function beginning to suffer.

You are more vulnerable to dehydration when you are sick, vomiting, have diarrhea, sweat excessively, don’t consume enough food or fluids with a balance of nutrients, have certain medical conditions, or consume things such as coffee or alcohol excessively which lead to a depletion of fluid balance.

WHO IS AT RISK?

Everyone is susceptible to dehydration every now and then, but these groups are at higher risk:

  • Athletes

  • Occupations exposed to direct sun/heat: first responders, agriculture and construction workers, mail delivery workers, life guards, landscape workers

  • Older adults

  • Individuals with viral or bacterial illness paired with diarrhea and/or vomiting

HOW TO FIX DEHYDRATION:

Drinking water alone will not replenish your body. Water lacks important electrolytes and many rehydrating drinks on the market lack a proper blend of vital nutrients or are packed full of sugar. You need more than water to hydrate your body in order to performs at its best.

Radiant Rehydration ensures you’re getting rehydrated with blends perfected to satisfy your cells in order to get you looking and feeling great! IV hydration allows a blend of fluids, electrolytes, and added vitamins to get absorbed directly into the bloodstream - bypassing the time and inefficiency of your digestive tract.

Dehydration is inconvenient, but Radiant Rehydration brings the convenience of rehydration directly to you. Schedule a session where we bring the valuable hydrating blends to your home, office, or wherever life takes you throughout the St. Louis area. We look forward to serving you!

Happy Hydrating!
